One of the largest crowd pullers for any MMO is the chance to come face to face with the enemy and test your skills in epic battle scenes. DC Universe pulls this of in great style, with a good selection of Alerts and Raids to choose from as soon as you start leveling up.
This is where you really need to get your game on!..You obviously have the first 6 levels to get used to your environment, hone your skills, and no doubt find some decent like minded players to forge a brotherhood with. For the first couple of days I found myself to be a bit of a loner due to my pathetically weak fighting style, and I can tell you this now, players were hardly knocking down my door with invites to join leagues or even teams! Something had to give!
It’s a completely different story now; I just needed a few snippets of quality information and the right guidance.
My first DCU Alert experience would of been a completely different and more enjoyable ball game if I had found (LINK) beforehand. I could of then walked straight into my first Alert kicking some serious ass for fun, leaving full – unopened cans of Woop Ass in my wake!…..But I didn’t, and I got my ass handed to me on a plate!
Between levels 7 and 9 the first few alerts will open up within Area 51, H.I.V.E MoonBase and Gorilla island (It is advisable to reach level 8 or even level 9 before you engage in your first alert) Once the alerts are activated, you have the option of joining a PUG and taking the enemy on with other players within the game.
By far the most attractive option is to go into battle with a group of players that you know, you can then communicate over the headsets and arrange your tactics. This is taken to a new level on the PC format with the option of using third party software. The PS3 makes this a little harder as you need to gather the codes for the other players beforehand. Either way, DC Universe enables you to kick ass, take names, mock your victims, and then laugh about it with your buddies, all in real time – Brilliant!
As the story evolves from the opening credits, you will engage a number of different enemies, in many different scenarios. Bludhaven, with its mob culture, is excellent and well worth preparing for. ACE Chemicals is next, followed by Khandag. Khandag has a fantastic alert taken straight out of the old school comic books. Keep a lookout for it, you will know exactly what I mean.
Other Alerts will become available as the game progresses, including the iconic Smallville, Shadowlands, Oolong Island, Themyscira, Trigon’s Lair and a pair of PvP Alerts that include S.T.A.R. Labs, and the Tomb of Isis.
Raids will come into effect as soon as level 30 has been reached. By this time you will be suitably tooled up with enough skills and weaponry to take on the likes of Mr Freeze, Scarecrow and poison Ivy, in an area called Arkham Asylum.
When you eventually reach the batcave, you will be confronted with Bat Sentinels, RPC and OMAC from Infinite Crisis series. The final 2 of the 4 raids take place at S.T.A.R Labs and Strykers Island.
