The red ring of death is a name that gamers gave to the three red lights that appear and begin to flash close to the power buttons of their consoles. Contrary to what most gamers think, the red lights are not an error or problem; they only serve as a way of informing the console user that something has gone wrong with the internal parts of the console. Here’s what happens; the Xbox 360 has an unusual tendency to overheat because of the inefficiency of the cooling system and the addiction of gamers.
When the console is used extensively, a great amount of heat builds up inside. This heat cannot be passed into the environment effectively, thus it remains locked up inside the console and wreaks havoc on the motherboard and other vital components of the Xbox.
When this happens, the device goes into stand by and alerts the user by a display of red flashing lights (color red has always being associated with danger, right?).
When you notice the red lights on your console, there are two things you can do. You can either send your console to Microsoft or repair it yourself. If you decide to repair it your console by sending it to Microsoft, set aside about $140 for that and prepare to stay without your console for more than six weeks. Wouldn’t that be boring?
If you are wise and adventurous enough to want to repair your console yourself, you would be able to do that within an hour with only some basic tools and a repair guide. The tools would be gotten from your home (or your neighbor’s) and the repair guide is waiting to be purchased for $30 from the internet.
The repair guide contains detailed guidelines and quality video clips that would serve as a map leading you to fix your console and get rid of the three red lights.
